Description:
We are presently searching for a volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Directors in October 2024.  The Treasurer will be a member of the Board of Directors, including the Executive Committee (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary), all of whom are unpaid volunteers.  During the initial onboarding period, during October and November, the new incoming Treasurer will be provided with guidance from our outgoing Treasurer, plus, other orientation support.

Treasurer Responsibilities include: 

  • Working closely with the other members of the Executive Committee (chair, vice chair and secretary) to safeguard the organization’s finances – i.e., Financial Oversight. 
  • Preparing financial progress and yearend reports for presentation at quarterly Board meetings and the AGM. 
  • Being the primary connection with the CRA for questions and clarifications.
  • Directing external accountant assigned by the Board.
  • Directing the part-time bookkeeper and admin coordinator. 
  • Overseeing banking transactions, control of the accounts, be signatory to the RSI bank accounts, periodic reconciliation of statements (with the bookkeeper).
  • Preparing for and attending all Regular, Annual Board Meetings and Executive Committee Check-ins.
  • Assisting the fundraising team with financial inputs for Grant proposals.

Qualifications

  • Business and Finance Leadership experience
  • Ideally an accredited CA/CPA 
  • NFP Board experience
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about sustainability – environmental, social and/or economic
  • A deep network of senior business and/or funding decision-makers and influencers
  • Collaborative, servant leadership work style 

About the RSI Board of Directors

  • Directors play a vital role in shaping RSI’s strategic directions, ensuring public accountability and in providing ongoing governance to the organization. In turn, Directors are provided with the opportunity to gain experience working with a skilled Board of Directors and contribute to the advancement of a progressive NFP organization. 
  • The Board has the following standing committees: Financial Oversight/Audit, Governance, Fundraising/Development Oversight.  We encourage each Director to participate on a standing committee or one of our project teams
  • Board Members are appointed for a two-year term; and, eligible for reappointment each year. 
  • The Board meets five to six times, plus annually at a combined AGM and strategic planning session. The Executive Committee meets more regularly, as required.
  • Project teams coordinate their own meetings based on defined deliverables.
