James (Jim) Young, PhD., is a global leader in applied atmospheric research and modelling, with over 44 years of experience working with clients across several sectors, including agriculture, government, transportation and energy; with a common focus on weather impacts on operations. Specific to food/agriculture and the role of AI, data and other innovations related to future readiness, he helps clients more precisely understand and prepare for weather extremes as well as changing norms.

He has served on international scientific panels and is the author of over 100 scientific and applied papers and articles. Jim is President of Jim Young Atmospheric Services Inc. which he created in March 2005 after 33 years in the private sector in senior leadership roles - including VP and Senior Air Quality Expert with SENES Consultants Limited, federal government (Acting Director General Research, Atmospheric Environment Service) and Chief, Air Quality Section, Environment New Brunswick.

Other former roles include: Canadian Co-Chairman of the International Air Quality Advisory Board of the International Joint Commission advice and guidance to the Commission on transboundary air quality issues; Director of the Air and Waste Management Association (Ontario Section), and, President of the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS); and as a member of the Advisory Committee on Transboundary Science for the Ontario government. He is currently a Senior Advisor to the RSI Board.

Jim is a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario; and publishes a weekly blog on “Our Common Atmosphere”.
